Chromosomes, Ripley and Smart Guitarists

Brothers who have the same father almost always have identical Y chromosomes.

Mr. Ripley, believe it or not, played baseball for the New York Giants, but he broke his arm in his first game and went back to drawing cartoons.

Brian May, lead guitarist from rock band Queen, holds a doctorate in astrophysics.

Believe it or not, I don't believe it. I believe he may have tried out for the team, but there is no sign of a Robert Ripley at either baseball-reference.com or baseball-almanac.com or retrosheet.org. Perhaps his accident was during his an exhibition game or practice.

Ripley itself makes the claim. It would seem to make sense that his first game would be an exhibition. One Spring Training game, and then back to the drawing board.

Why might the Y chromosome be different for two sons of the same father?
