In 1991, I visited one of my best friends in Tennessee while he was stationed at the amphibious naval base in Memphis. I learned that there are only three cool things to do in Memphis: see the Mississippi River, listen to Jazz and Blues on Beale Street, and see the King. I did all three, in that order.
Whilst touring Graceland, only slightly drunk, we were amazed at the awfulness of the yellow room, and we wondered at how impressive it must have been in the 60s and 70s to have not one, not two, but three (or four?) color TVs in one room. Elvis had all those TVs so he could watch several college football games at once. A fine reason, but the solution is no longer so amazing. I have at least four or five color TVs in my house, albeit in several rooms.
Tonight I will have three going at once, watching the Laker game, the extra Survivor show, and the series finale of Frasier.
Elvis, you got nothin' on me.
