We believe that college football needs yet another method of determining a national champion. Consequently, we hereby announce that lex icon shall be awarding the Lex Icon National Championship Belt to the team we recognize as college football's existing national champion. The inaugural belt is hereby awarded to the Texas Longhorns, who earned the right to be called champions by virtue of their victory over the previous undisputed national champions, the USC Trojans.
In the style of various world boxing organizations, the Lex Icon National Championship Belt committee shall recognize as national champion only a team that defeats the existing national champion. The next team to be given the chance to call themselves "national champions" shall be the North Texas Mean Green. The Longhorns shall defend their national title again on September 2, 2006, when they host North Texas. Should the Longhorns win, they will be called upon the defend their title again the following Saturday against the Ohio State University Buckeyes.
