One of Our Soldiers

This Newsweek photograph of three soldiers in Afghanistan is special to our family because the soldier on the right is a good friend. His stepmother is godmother to our younger daughter. Our families are quite close. The caption tells us that the soldier on the right was shot in the arm, and that the photographer was shot in the stomach. What it doesn't mention is that most of his unit were killed or wounded in the ambush. It also doesn't tell you he's now back home recuperating from another injury and complications from surgery.
