Shortly after sunset, with patchy fogs settling and lifting over Juneau, Alaska, the Diamond Princess left port a few minutes before our cruise did. In spite of the darkness, the lights and colors were amazing, from the yellow reflections off the white railing above us, to the blue patch from the hole in the clouds where the last bits of sunlight bounced off the clouds, to the red of the city lights, which did the same.
As the ship grew closer, a cloud descended upon it, and it looked like I might have imagined a ghost ship would look like, an effect made more realistic by the fact that roughly half the ship was inside eating dinner, and almost half were in the show, or getting ready for the show. Hardly anybody was outside on the decks waiving to us as they passed.
That is one of the most beautiful cruise ship pictures I've ever seen.
