Apparently, the incompetence of New Orleans city government is still causing people to become homeless due to their bungling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The latest: demolishing perfectly good houses because of simple miscommunications. Somewhere, someone, somehow, will find a way to blame George Bush.
Liberals are less happy than conservatives. Why? One theory is that liberals are more troubled by social and economic inequality. Conservatives see the poor, quote Jesus about how the poor will always be with us, they give to charity and go about their lives. Liberals, who don't give charitably nearly as much, protest poverty, demand that someone else do something about it, and get frustrated when no one obeys them. I prefer the conservatives' approach.
Have you heard about Barack Obama's half-brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, who lives in Kenya? If the latest story about him is accurate, he lives on about a dollar a day and Barack has nothing to do with him. He's not his brother's keeper. He has some pretty grand plans about how, with the tax dollars of some Americans, he can make the lives of less fortunate or less industrious Americans better, but apparently he doesn't have a plan to help his brother out of a hellhole. What a difference having the right mother makes.
Speaking of right mothers, I hear Lynne Spears' new book is no longer going to be a parenting guide. It's now being sold, from what you can glean from the cover, as a cautionary tale. I won't buy it, because I'm not that curious about what it's like to raise famous crazy drunken party whores who have children they aren't mature enough to raise.
Anther drunk driver is going to jail - for ten years - for killing someone by driving drunk and going the wrong way on the freeway. I don't get how this happens. I've been so drunk that I can barely walk, but I've never been so drunk that I would drive into oncoming traffic, even if I was willing to get behind the wheel.
In Puerto Rico, a man's corpse was kept standing for three days because he had wanted to be upright for his wake. The guy was 24 years old when they found him dead, under a bridge. The story doesn't explain why a 24-year-old thought death was imminent enough to tell his friends who he wanted his wake and funeral done, but it does have a creepy photo of the corpse propped up in the corner.
Apparently, in the land of China, possession of Bibles, with intent to distribute, is some sort of crime. Use King James, go to jail.
To date, USC athletes have won seven medals: four gold, two silver and one bronze. Former NCAA Champion Ous Mellouli is the latest. He won the 1500-meter freestyle for Tunisia. If USC was competing as a nation, it would only be 23rd in medal count so far (that, but it could be picking up several more as team competition draws to a close this week.
MLB umpires clearly hate fans, players and the integrity of the game, or they wouldn't be trying to prevent the new proposed instant replay rules. Now I don't even have to wait for a blown call to decide that I hate the ump. are okay again.
Barack Obama in 2004: "It's that fundamental belief -- I am my brother's keeper, I am my sisters' keeper -- that makes this country work."
