After going 5-2 in my money picks two weeks ago, last week I reversed that and went 2-5. If I was more disciplined, I would have gone 4-3, but at the last minute, I let someone talk me into going with Michigan State instead of Iowa, and also at the last second, I went with my heart and took USC and the points, which was not the smart bet. So now I'm 27-21 on the season, if my math is right. Frankly, this is a bit of a boring week in college football. Aside from the USC game, which always interests me, there is LSU/Alabam and TCU/Utah and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't much interest me. Utah let me down last week, so I'm picking TCU in the big one. I'm picking LSU in the other big one because I don't want a 1-loss Alabama to get another crack at the title but I want to feel free to root for them against Auburn. I'd love to see Joe Paterno win his 400th game, but the game itself holds no interest for me. There are, however, seven games with spreads I like this week. My picks are in bold. The real money ones are marked by an asterisk:
Thursday, Nov 4
Georgia Tech 20 @ #21 Virginia Tech 28 (done)
Saturday, Nov 6
#23 N.C. State @ Clemson -½
* #7 Wisconsin @ Purdue +20
* Minnesota @ #16 Michigan St. -24½
#15 Iowa @ Indiana +17½
#22 Baylor @#19 Oklahoma St. -8
Chattanooga @ #3 Auburn
* #4 TCU @ #6 Utah -4½
* Hawaii @ #2 Boise St. -21½
North Carolina @ #24 Florida St. -10½
#9 Nebraska @ Iowa St. +18
* Washington @ #1 Oregon -35
* #5 Alabama @ #12 LSU +6½
#25 Nevada @ Idaho +12
#11 Oklahoma @ Texas A&M +3½
#17 Arkansas @ #18 South Carolina -4
#14 Missouri @ Texas Tech +4
* #13 Arizona @ #10 Stanford -8½
I'm also following the play of these unranked opponents:
Cal @ Washington State +14½
Oregon State @ UCLA +6½
Arizona State @ USC -5½
Mercifully, Notre Dame has a bye.
And this week's College Football Championship Belt match:
Defending champion Florida @ Vanderbilt +14½
